I'd have to agree with Danno on this one. The problem is the clutter factor. When you have a large number of classes and resources stored together it gets harder to find what you're looking for when you're scanning through the project tree. It's easier if the resources are separated. It's also difficult to build with maven if you don't follow the standards. :-)
