It already is, and has been since Python 2.3, in large part to support zope-style proxying. It's also leveraged by my ProxyTypes package in the Cheeseshop, and by a few bits of code in Chandler.
I know (I should, since I wrote the code :-) but I think the solution could be much cleaner.
