Another -1 here - while I agree there are benefits to removing backslash continuations and string literal concatenation, I don't think they're significant enough to justify the hassle of making it happen.
OK. I'm just about ready to reject both PEP 3125 and PEP 3126 on the grounds of lack of popular support and insufficient benefits. If anyone is truly upset about this, let them speak up now, or be forever silent.
