I think I was on vacation when ConfigParser was added, and I still remember being quite surprised that it landed in the Python CVS. I'd love to see that module frozen (in the sense of "let's not even try to fix it), and come up with a more reasonable API that takes a single syntax (.ini file syntax is fine; let's not invent one). It might be worth looking at the GConf API used in Gnome; I'm not sure how it compares.
