Hell, I even recognize SVP as a suffix of the good old English RSVP -- it figures the French would drop the first and most important letter .
RSVP = repondez s'il vous plait = reply, please SVP = s'il vous plait = please
(I know, this has nothing to do with timezones. Sorry. I'll stop now.)
