Wouldn't that have to be from ...Y import X ^-------------separator, as in A.B NO, NO, NO! Each dot is one uplevel. Exactly like Mac OS 9 paths do with ':'. (Read macpath.py.)

That's a fine convention; I'm familiar with MacOS paths.
The fact that David Goodger and I were both confused might indicate that the proposed syntax might not be as intuitive as you'd like, but I don't think it'll take long to get used to.
