Hi,
On *nix, use a unix domain socket (location in the filesystem which acts as a listening socket). On Windows, you can use cTypes, pywin32, etc., to create a global mutex and/or COM interface.
Ok, but for a very simple and crude need like mine (the application code using this IPC means is not more than 20 lines long, and it has no performance requirement), it would be useful to have an abstraction in the standard library.
