Incidentally there were a small but vocal group of Pythonistas who were (are?) certain that IronPython is not Python because it doesn't have [all of...] the C extensions. It seems likely to be easier to port ctypes to Jython/IronPython than it is to port 500 C extensions to Jython. So more software using ctype seems like an improvement for those communities. Yes, both of them have their own FFIs. Seo Sanghyeon started a port of ctypes for IronPython that should be revived by 'someone'. :-)
OT: There is also some noise about a ctypes-js implementation for JavaScript; although I do not know how far they are.
