I personally think the Mac is pretty important, as one of the big three consumer operating systems... [...] I don't know what to do about motivation but if there are barriers that we can lower, please let me know.

For example, you could volunteer to produce OSX binaries in a timely manner for the next two years. Now would be a good point to do so, since your next release would still be a beta release. Expect to mess up the first time you do it, so it's good that it would be only a beta.
