which are broken Pipermail's links aren't stable AFAIU. The numbering is changing over time.
I don't think that's true in general. I do recall the archive getting FUBARed a few months back, and one of the consequences of fixing it was that some old messages were renumbered (since the whole archive basically had to be reindexed or something like that).
