PS: I read c.l.py-dev using NNTP from Thunderbird. Why anyone bothers with these web interfaces is beyond me ...
I'll note one other thing. Mailman 3 intends[*] to provide NNTP access directly to its archives, exactly because IMO it's so much better to read old mail that way.
PPS: What makes you think the email package transition is complete?
