Regarding PEP 362: there are some outstanding issues with the PEP, that should be resolved. I've outlined some in this email: http://mail.python.org/pipermail/python-dev/2012-March/117540.html
If Brett is tied up with the importlib integration, I'd be glad to offer my help with adjustment of the PEP and reference implementation update.
