Why would a Python logging handler be used in a child process? If the child process is a fresh Python process, it starts with the default logging handlers (no handler). Files opened by the logging module must be closed on exec().

I agree with this. It is only on fork()-without-exec() that the behaviour of python-daemon is actively anti-social.
