Actually Python was born in December 1989 and first released open source in February 1991. I don't recall what version number that was, perhaps 0.1.0. The 1994 date was just the release of 1.0!

Someone in HackerNews shared the Guido's Python 1.0.0 announcement from 27 Jan 1994. That is, on this day, 20 years ago.
24 years ago, no? (-: Correct so we only have one year to organise the 25th birthday party. The exact time and place for the party will obviously have to be discussed on python-ideas, or do we need a new mailing list? :-) -- My fellow Pythonistas, ask not what our language can do for you, ask what you can do for our language.
