GETEGID(3P) POSIX Programmer's Manual GETEGID(3P)

PROLOG top

   This manual page is part of the POSIX Programmer's Manual. The
   Linux implementation of this interface may differ (consult the
   corresponding Linux manual page for details of Linux behavior), or
   the interface may not be implemented on Linux.

NAME top

   getegid — get the effective group ID

SYNOPSIS top

   #include <unistd.h>

   gid_t getegid(void);

DESCRIPTION top

   The _getegid_() function shall return the effective group ID of the
   calling process. The _getegid_() function shall not modify _[errno](../man3/errno.3.html)_.

RETURN VALUE top

   The _getegid_() function shall always be successful and no return
   value is reserved to indicate an error.

ERRORS top

   No errors are defined.

   _The following sections are informative._

EXAMPLES top

   None.

APPLICATION USAGE top

   None.

RATIONALE top

   In a conforming environment, _getegid_() will always succeed. It is
   possible for implementations to provide an extension where a
   process in a non-conforming environment will not be associated
   with a user or group ID. It is recommended that such
   implementations return (**gid_t**)-1 and set _[errno](../man3/errno.3.html)_ to indicate such an
   environment; doing so does not violate this standard, since such
   an environment is already an extension.

FUTURE DIRECTIONS top

   None.
