PROLOG top

NAME top

   if_indextoname — map a network interface index to its
   corresponding name

SYNOPSIS top

   #include <net/if.h>

   char *if_indextoname(unsigned _ifindex_, char *_ifname_);

DESCRIPTION top

   The _ifindextoname_() function shall map an interface index to its
   corresponding name.

   When this function is called, _ifname_ shall point to a buffer of at
   least {IF_NAMESIZE} bytes. The function shall place in this buffer
   the name of the interface with index _ifindex_.

RETURN VALUE top

   If _ifindex_ is an interface index, then the function shall return
   the value supplied in _ifname_, which points to a buffer now
   containing the interface name. Otherwise, the function shall
   return a null pointer and set _[errno](../man3/errno.3.html)_ to indicate the error.

ERRORS top

   The _ifindextoname_() function shall fail if:
