   **putpwent**():
       Since glibc 2.19:
           _DEFAULT_SOURCE
       glibc 2.19 and earlier:
           _SVID_SOURCE

DESCRIPTION top

   The **putpwent**() function writes a password entry from the structure
   _p_ in the file associated with _stream_.

   The _passwd_ structure is defined in _<pwd.h>_ as follows:

       struct passwd {
           char    *pw_name;        /* username */
           char    *pw_passwd;      /* user password */
           uid_t    pw_uid;         /* user ID */
           gid_t    pw_gid;         /* group ID */
           char    *pw_gecos;       /* real name */
           char    *pw_dir;         /* home directory */
           char    *pw_shell;       /* shell program */
       };

RETURN VALUE top

   The **putpwent**() function returns 0 on success.  On failure, it
   returns -1, and _[errno](../man3/errno.3.html)_ is set to indicate the error.

   **EINVAL** Invalid (NULL) argument given.
