PROLOG top

   This manual page is part of the POSIX Programmer's Manual.  The
   Linux implementation of this interface may differ (consult the
   corresponding Linux manual page for details of Linux behavior), or
   the interface may not be implemented on Linux.

NAME top

   strstr — find a substring

SYNOPSIS top

   #include <string.h>

   char *strstr(const char *_s1_, const char *_s2_);

DESCRIPTION top

   The functionality described on this reference page is aligned with
   the ISO C standard. Any conflict between the requirements
   described here and the ISO C standard is unintentional. This
   volume of POSIX.1‐2017 defers to the ISO C standard.

   The _strstr_() function shall locate the first occurrence in the
   string pointed to by _s1_ of the sequence of bytes (excluding the
   terminating NUL character) in the string pointed to by _s2_.

RETURN VALUE top

   Upon successful completion, _strstr_() shall return a pointer to the
   located string or a null pointer if the string is not found.

   If _s2_ points to a string with zero length, the function shall
   return _s1_.
