T e m p l eTen miles from the Spa town of Harrogate you will find this beautiful Victorian Gothic house, built by George Martin in 1843. In the mid 1980's it was bought by an American businessman, and has since undergone extensive restoration.
This restoration program has also thankfully been extended to the 'Temple of Victory', an octagonal domed temple of Palladian design, on a hill to the west.
This was built in the late 18th century possibly by Prince Frederick Augustus, who was King George III second son. The nursery rhyme the 'Grand Old Duke of York' is thought to refer to Prince Frederick, and the hill on which the folly is located, is assumed by tradition to be the one mentioned in the rhyme.Visiting:- Open Easter to September Tel: 01423 330927
