D u c i sOn an unclassified road that runs from Collingbourne Ducis to Wexcombe you will find this great little pumping station by the side of the road on top of Grafton Hill.
Pump House
Until recently I thought this was a folly, with the reservoir that sits behind it a latter addition. However, it seems that a Dr William Corrin Finch provided the village of Wexcombe with running water in 1899, this elegant building housing the pump.
It is brick built, about 15 feet high and 9 feet in diameter with a pineapple style roof, also in brick. There is an inscription above the door but my best efforts have been unable to read it, the date of 1899 actually appears to say 1599, as the stone has become so worn.Visiting:-
There is a pull-in from the passing lane in front of the structure, at the junction with a footpath.Co-Ords: 426810 158740 / SU 268587
