The Kid's alright - Getting the last L'OL: Tanner Tessmann at Olympic Lyonnaise (original) (raw)

Obviously he signed with Dallas, but posting here so we can track:
“I was planning on going to trial in the summer somewhere, we hadn’t made the decision yet where, but there is definitely interest over there [from Europe]," Tessmann told reporters on a video conference call on Tuesday. "I’ve been with FC Dallas a long time, that was the goal. I was loyal to them, they’re loyal to me. I’m glad how everything worked out, but in the future, Europe is definitely the plan.”

European trials would likely have cut into the amount of time he could have spent preparing to play football at Clemson. 2.

Looks like Venezia and their American owners / management are finally getting their Yank! Didn’t see Tessman coming with all the other Yanks who’ve been linked. But out of all of them….. Tessmann seems like the best fit with his age and ceiling. 5.

Durkin, Wright, Cannon, Busio (loan), and maybe two others I’m blanking on. I’ve taken them all with a grain of salt. None of them have felt concrete or even like real interest. 8.

I expect more Serie A sides to start looking at MLS players honestly. Grand scheme of things they are cheaper which helps the bottom half teams. Plus a lot of American flavor now in Italy with owners at Roma, Spezia, Venice, Parma (who just got relegated), Florentino, and Bologna's owner also owning Montreal.
Biggest thing preventing that right now is the Non EU rule Serie A has 10.

I don't understand moves like this. Tessman is a fine prospect but he's not even a full time starter for Dallas much less at a level where he's too good for MLS. It seems a bit early to move on to a place where there's no reason to believe he's going to get minutes. 11.

I’m a big Tessman fan, and think he would get minutes. Even if he doesn’t start right away, I love that top 5 euro leagues are looking at MLS for affordable young talent. I know we will never be at a Brazil level in terms of sending prospects to Europe, but within a few years I’d like to see 12-15 MLS homegrowns transferring to Europe every summer 12.

Tessmann has started 6 of the 7 matches he’s been available to play this season. Started 15 of 26 in his career. Bryan Reynolds had similar stats starting 14 of 17 (15 of 27 in his FCD career) before transferring to Roma. I don’t think many of us would have argued Reynolds was not ready for Roma. I actually think Tessmann might be more equipment to hand the Serie A sooner than Reynolds. Some of that is because of the statute of the two clubs and it’s assumed the it would be easier to break into Venezia. I also think game is a little more suited to Serie A. 13.

I don't think the gap between Dallas a lower level Serie A team is that big anyway... 14.

I think there is a pretty large difference. If he actually wins a starting spot then this would be a coup since he seems to have lost his spot in Dallas. I think he has a ton of talent but his form did drop this season. I think playing in Serie A could be huge for him. I hope it goes down. 15.

Tessmann is not in the starting XI or on the bench tonight for FCD. That’s a clear sign a transfer is going down. 17.

I think he’s out kicked that coverage!
But….. with new NCAA rules…. He might be able to make more money at Clemson. 19.

Compete with? Unsure. I do think that in terms of style of play Serie A has a style that I think many MLS players would have the least difficult transition to.
Though Venizia is a very ambitious club. Unless the owner really messes things up there is no reason they cannot areas reach Sassoulo levels if not higher 20.
Sounds like the deal could be done by today. From Corriere dell Sport:
The final details are being filed and by the hour the player will fly to Italy for medical examinations and the signing of the contract. The investment for the permanent transfer fluctuates around 2.5 million euros.
