The municipality of Lac-M�gantic (5,967 inhabitants in 2006; 21,760 ha) is located in the MRC (County) of Le Granit, Estrie Administrative Region, near the border with Maine (USA). In the Ab�naqui language, M�gantic means "the place where fish stays". In the second half of the 18th century, the area was settled by Irish, English and Scottish colonists, later succeeded by French Canadians.

The flag

The flag of Lac-M�gantic is shown on the blog ("babillard") of the local radio CJIT, as displayed by three soldiers from the town stationed at the Nathan Smith Camp of the Canadian Armed Forces in Kandahar, Afghanistan. The flag is in proportions 1:2, white with the white-blue-green logo of the town, surmounting LAC-M�GANTIC in green letters. The white element in the blue field is a map of Lake M�gantic.

The website of the MRC of Le Granit shows the logo of Lac-M�gantic, which I have modified (lighter shades and capital letters) to match the real flag shown on the photo.
