Their captain was Beregond of Minas Tirith, and they dwelt among the hills of Emyn Arnen where the Prince had his seat. The 'White' of the Company's name presumably relates to the simple white banner that was used as the standard of the Stewards of Gondor.1 Notes 1 Given this apparent connection to the Stewards, the White Company may have existed historically as the personal guard of the Stewards of Gondor. They are, however, never mentioned except in connection to Faramir, and on balance it seems more likely that the company was created by Aragorn specifically for the new Prince of Ithilien.
