VFPRINTF(3P) POSIX Programmer's Manual VFPRINTF(3P)

PROLOG top

   This manual page is part of the POSIX Programmer's Manual. The
   Linux implementation of this interface may differ (consult the
   corresponding Linux manual page for details of Linux behavior), or
   the interface may not be implemented on Linux.

NAME top

   vdprintf, vfprintf, vprintf, vsnprintf, vsprintf — format output
   of a stdarg argument list

SYNOPSIS top

   #include <stdarg.h>
   #include <stdio.h>

   int vdprintf(int _fildes_, const char *restrict _format_, va_list _ap_);
   int vfprintf(FILE *restrict _stream_, const char *restrict _format_,
       va_list _ap_);
   int vprintf(const char *restrict _format_, va_list _ap_);
   int vsnprintf(char *restrict _s_, size_t _n_, const char *restrict _format_,
       va_list _ap_);
   int vsprintf(char *restrict _s_, const char *restrict _format_, va_list _ap_);

DESCRIPTION top

   The functionality described on this reference page is aligned with
   the ISO C standard. Any conflict between the requirements
   described here and the ISO C standard is unintentional. This
   volume of POSIX.1‐2017 defers to the ISO C standard.

   The _vdprintf_(), _vfprintf_(), _vprintf_(), _vsnprintf_(), and _vsprintf_()
   functions shall be equivalent to the _dprintf_(), _fprintf_(),
   _printf_(), _snprintf_(), and _sprintf_() functions respectively, except
   that instead of being called with a variable number of arguments,
   they are called with an argument list as defined by _<stdarg.h>_.

   These functions shall not invoke the _vaend_ macro. As these
   functions invoke the _vaarg_ macro, the value of _ap_ after the
   return is unspecified.

RETURN VALUE top

   Refer to [fprintf(3p)](../man3/fprintf.3p.html).

ERRORS top

   Refer to [fprintf(3p)](../man3/fprintf.3p.html).

   _The following sections are informative._

EXAMPLES top

   None.

APPLICATION USAGE top

   Applications using these functions should call _vaend_(_ap_)
   afterwards to clean up.

RATIONALE top

   None.

FUTURE DIRECTIONS top

   None.
