Schorl-1A (original) (raw)
A variety of Schorl
A structural variant of the tourmaline mineral scorl, considered as "the triclinic dimorph" of schorl, but not to be regarded as a separate mineral species (Bosi et al. 2022). Originally described as luinaite-(OH), a monoclinic tourmaline. The luinaite-(OH) from the type locality Cleveland tin mine, Heazlewood district, Waratah-Wynyard municipality, Tasmania, Australia), was however found to be triclinic and luinaite-(OH) was descredited in 2022 (IMA Proposal 21-L).
A reported luinaite-(OH) from Langesundsfjorden, Norway has found to be schorl-1A (Langesundsfjorden, Norway (Cámara et al. 2022).
Other reported luinaite-(OH) has been found to be either oxy-dravite-1A (triclinic) or schorl-1M (monoclinic).
