The Louisville, New Orleans & Texas Railway was formed by C. P. Huntington in 1882 to connect Huntington-owned railroads Southern Pacific and Chesapeake, Ohio & Southwestern to form a transcontinental railroad. The Louisville, New Orleans & Texas Railway was itself formed by a consolidation made August 12, 1884, of the Tennessee Southern Railroad Company, the Memphis & Vicksburg Railroad Company, the New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Vicksburg & Memphis Railroad Company, and the New Orleans & Mississippi Valley Railroad Company. The LNO&T was completed in October 1884. The LNO&T was sold to the Yazoo & Mississippi Valley in Oct. 1892.
