The Yazoo & Mississippi Valley Railroad was incorporated February 17, 1882, and from the beginning was a subsidiary of the Illinois Central Railroad. The Y&MV purchased the Louisville, New Orleans & Texas on Oct. 24, 1892. The Y&MV operated as part of the Illinois Central until it was officially merged into the IC in 1946.
