Antarctica Time Zones (original) (raw)
On 2009-10-18 02:00, the time zone for Casey Station changed from UTC+8 to UTC+11. The time zone for Davis Station changed from UTC+7 to UTC+5, and the time zone for Mawson Station from UTC+6 to UTC+5. On 2010-03-05 02:00, Casey Station changed back to UTC+8. Davis changed back to UTC+7 on 2010-03-11 01:00. Mawson remains at UTC+5 for now. Steffen Thorsen reports that these changes may be made annually in the future, but it's not definite. The reason for the changes is to comport with current operational schedules from the Australian supply bases.

Time zone names
Casey, Palmer, and McMurdo observe the standard time of their supply bases, which are in Western Australia, Chile, and New Zealand, respectively. Therefore, they use the same time zone names as those places. Palmer was on Argentine time until 1982-05.
The only names given for the time zones of Davis, Mawson, and Syowa are Davis Time, Mawson Time, and Syowa Time. These names were made up for the tz database. There may be more authentic names, but the tz database hasn't heard of them.
The Dumont-d'Urville time zone was called Port-Martin Time from 1947 to 1952, and Dumont-d'Urville Time from 1956 to the present. Again, these names were made up. The Port-Martin base, 50 km. from Dumont-d'Urville, operated from 1947 to 1952 and then burned down.
