- Les eleccions al Dáil Éireann de 1989 es van celebrar el 15 de juny de 1989 per a renovar els 166 diputats del Dáil Éireann a causa de la dimissió de Charles Haughey com a cap de govern. Tot i guanyar un altre cop, el seu partit no va obtenir prou majoria, raó per la qual es va veure obligat a formar govern amb els Progressive Democrats. (ca)

- The 1989 Irish general election was held on Thursday, 15 June, three weeks after the dissolution of the Dáil on 25 May. The 26th Dáil assembled at Leinster House on 29 June. However, a new Taoiseach and a Fianna Fáil-Progressive Democrats government were not appointed until 12 July. The general election took place in 41 parliamentary constituencies throughout Ireland for 166 seats in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of parliament, on the same day as the European Parliament election. - As eleições parlamentares irlandesas de 1989 foram realizadas a 15 de Junho e, serviram para eleger os 166 deputados ao Dáil. Estas eleições foram antecipadas por duas razões: por um lado, o governo minoritário do Fianna Fáil, perdeu uma moção parlamentar sobre fundos para os doentes de SIDA; por outro lado, o Fianna Fáil sentia que era o momento perfeito para novas eleições e conquistar uma maioria absoluta, algo que, as sondagens de então davam como certo. Os resultados eleitorais foram decepcionantes para o Fianna Fáil, que não só não conquistou a maioria absoluta, como, ainda, perdeu 4 deputados, ficando com 77 deputados, enquanto que, em votos, o partido não cresceu, conquistado 44,1% dos votos, exactamente o mesmo conseguido em 1987. O Fine Gael, que tinha, tacitamente, apoiado o governo do Fianna Fáil, obteve pequenos ganhos, ganhando mais 3 deputados e subindo 2,2%, ficando-se pelos 55 deputados e 29,3% dos votos. O Partido Trabalhista, recuperou do mau resultado anterior, subindo para os 9,5% e, conquistando mais 3 deputados, ficando com 15 deputados. O Partido dos Trabalhadores obteve o seu melhor resultado eleitoral, conquistando 5,0% dos votos e 7 deputados, tornando-se, em Dublin, o maior partido a seguir aos partidos tradicionais. Por fim, destacar o péssimo resultados dos Democratas Progressistas que perdeu 8 deputados, ficando-se pelos 6, e, a entrada, pela primeira vez, de um deputado do Partido Verde. Após as eleições, depois da recusa do Fine Gael em continuar a apoiar um governo minoritário, o Fianna Fáil efectou, pela primeira vez na sua história, um governo de coligação com os liberais dos Democratas Progressistas.
