The 1999–2000 Heineken Cup was the fifth edition of the Heineken Cup of rugby. Teams from France, Ireland, Italy, Wales, England and Scotland were divided into six pools of four and played home and away matches against each other. The pool winners and two best runners-up qualified for the knockout stages.

Das Finale fand am 27. Mai 2000 im Twickenham Stadium in London statt. Pokalsieger wurden die Northampton Saints aus England, die im Finale die irische Mannschaft Munster Rugby schlugen. Les formations s'affrontent dans une première phase de poules, puis par élimination directe. Vingt-quatre équipes sont réparties en six poules. Chaque équipe rencontre deux fois ses adversaires de poule en une série de six matchs aller-retour. En poules, deux points sont accordés pour une victoire, un pour un nul et rien pour une défaite. Les premières de chaque poule sont qualifiées pour les quarts de finale, ainsi que les deux meilleures deuxièmes. En cas d'égalité, les équipes sont départagées à la différence de points. L'organisation de la H-Cup trouve enfin sa forme optimale puisqu'elle est toujours en vigueur actuellement. Cette édition présente pour la première fois un dernier carré équilibré avec quatre nations différentes représentées : la France avec le Stade toulousain, l'Angleterre avec les Northampton Saints, l'Irlande avec le Munster et le pays de Galles avec les Llanelli Scarlets. La finale a lieu le 27 mai 2000 au stade de Twickenham à Londres et voit la victoire de Northampton face à la province irlandaise du Munster après un match rugueux et très serré. Per la prima volta la finale di tale competizione si tenne a fine stagione: partita a novembre 1999, infatti, vide il suo atto terminale a maggio 2000, nello stadio di Twickenham a Londra. Rispetto alla stagione precedente vi fu il rientro delle squadre inglesi, e il numero di club partecipanti aumentò da 16 a 24; furono così necessari, per disputare la prima fase, 6 gironi da 4 squadre ciascuna, con gare di andata e ritorno. Ammesse ai quarti di finale furono le sei prime classificate più le due migliori seconde; i turni a eliminazione diretta si disputarono in gara unica, in casa della squadra meglio piazzata per seeding. La finale vide il ritorno alla vittoria di un club inglese, il Northampton, che sconfisse gli irlandesi del Munster.
