The 2002 European Winter Throwing Challenge was held on 9 and 10 March at Stadion Veruda in Pula, Croatia. It was the second edition of the athletics competition for throwing events organised by the European Athletics Association. A total of 175 athletes from 26 countries entered the competition, an increase on the inaugural edition the previous year. The competition featured men's and women's contests in shot put, discus throw, javelin throw and hammer throw. Athletes were seeded into "A" and "B" groups in several events due to the number of entries. Rutger Smith of the Netherlands defied his seeding in both the shot put and discus, managing to reach the overall podium in the events despite being in the weaker "B" group. Zawody zorganizowane zostały przez European Athletics i Hrvatski atletski savez. W imprezie wzięło udział 177 zawodników z 23 krajów Europy. Podczas zawodów ustanowiono 1 rekord kraju oraz 17 rekordów życiowych. W klasyfikacji drużynowej zwyciężyły reprezentacje – męskie i żeńskie – Rosji. (pl) Европейский вызов по зимним метаниям 2002 года прошёл 9—10 марта на стадионе «» в Пуле (Хорватия). В программу турнира были включены толкание ядра, метание диска, метание молота и метание копья. Разыгрывались 2 командных трофея, среди мужчин и женщин. В соревнованиях приняли участие 175 метателей из 26 стран Европы. Каждая страна могла выставить до 2 человек в каждой дисциплине. В зачёт команды шли оба результата в каждом из видов метаний, после чего они переводились в очки с помощью Международной таблицы перевода результатов ИААФ.
