2002 Somaliland municipal elections (original) (raw)
- Municipal elections were held across Somaliland on 15 December 2002. Six political associations fielded 2,368 candidates to contest 379 local council seats in nineteen of Somaliland's twenty-three electoral districts. Prior to these elections, local government only consisted of a mayor and a councillor both appointed by the Ministry of Interior by the recommendation of the President. These elections would pave way for the establishment of popularly-elected local governments that were directly responsible to local constituencies. (en)
- Las elecciones municipales se llevaron a cabo en Somalilandia el 15 de diciembre de 2002. Seis partidos políticos presentaron 2.368 candidatos para disputar 379 escaños en los consejos locales en diecinueve de los veintitrés distritos electorales de Somalilandia. Antes de estas elecciones, el gobierno local estaba compuesto únicamente por un alcalde y un concejal, ambos designados por el por recomendación del Presidente. Estas elecciones allanarían el camino para el establecimiento de gobiernos locales elegidos popularmente que fueran directamente responsables ante los distritos electorales locales. (es)

Les élections voient arriver en tête les partis UDUB, Kulmiye et UCID qui, en vertu de la constitution, deviennent pour dix ans les trois seuls partis autorisés à concourir aux élections présidentielles et législatives nationales.
