الملابس الرياضية هي ملابس مختفلة الشكل والنوع نظراً لنوع الرياضة الخاصة بها، ويمكن ان تكون سفلية أو علوية أو كلاهما، فملابس السباحة مثلا تكون خفيفة وخاصة للتعامل مع الماء وملابس الجمباز ضيقة ومريحة للعضلات الحركة، وملابس كرة القدم ماص جيد للعرق . (ar)

Sportswear or activewear is clothing, including footwear, worn for sport or physical exercise. Sport-specific clothing is worn for most sports and physical exercise, for practical, comfort or safety reasons. Typical sport-specific garments include tracksuits, shorts, T-shirts and polo shirts. Specialized garments include swimsuits (for swimming), wet suits (for diving or surfing), ski suits (for skiing) and leotards (for gymnastics). Sports footwear include trainers, football boots, riding boots, and ice skates. Sportswear also includes bikini and some crop tops. Sportswear is also at times worn as casual fashion clothing. For most sports the athletes wear a combination of different items of clothing, e.g. sport shoes, pants and shirts. In some sports, protective gear may need to be worn, such as helmets or American football body armour. Especially in team sports which involved blocking, intercepting, or pursuing small, hard projectiles such as cricket, baseball, and hockey (where balls or pucks are struck to speeds in excess of 100 MPH (45 m/s)) jockstraps (or jillstraps) are standard equipment at higher levels of play. Other undergarments, such as the sports bra, furnish a mixture of protection and comfort. Some protective or supportive orthotics resemble and function as undergarments (especially flexible harnesses and braces); though intended to be worn for sports, these are not generally conceived of as sportswear per se. Sports fabrics are technical materials which help to keep the wearer comfortable during exercise. The type of fabric required will depend upon the intensity of the exercise and the activity. Yoga clothing should use fabrics with exceptional stretch ability for easy movement which will likely require the fabric to be of a knitted construction. Apparel for long-distance running will keep the wearer in good comfort if it has excellent moisture wicking properties to enable sweat to transfer from the inside to the outside for the garment. Performance clothing for outdoor sports in the winter or snow sports should use breathable fabrics with very good insulating properties. In wealthy and rising economies, sportswear is a major consumption category in the personal health, luxury goods and leisure space, associated with aggressive media presence and marketing strategies of global scope, often centered around endorsements from celebrity athletes. At the very highest levels of performance, the durability requirement of a costly and technically advanced item of sportswear can be as short as a single competitive event. At lower levels of competition and participation, there are many possible trade-offs between form, function, aesthetics (fashion), performance style, durability and cost. This has led to an almost bewildering array of product offerings, especially where the collision between all these variables is most intense, in particular footwear (most especially runners and court shoes), with seasonal issues, tweaks, and respins from all the major brands, elevated to the level of iconic symbols in some cultural subgroups. 운동복(運動服)은 운동할 때에 입는 옷이다. 운동복은 운동의 능률을 향상시키고 몸을 보호해 줄 수 있어야 한다. 어떤 운동을 하느냐에 따라 모양이 다르지만, 어느 것이나 활동하기에 편하고 운동을 방해하는 복잡한 장식이 없는 형태로 제작된다. 색상은 보통 눈에 잘 띄는 밝은 색을 사용하며, 옷감은 신축성이 좋고 질기며 가볍고, 운동할 때에 나는 땀이나 여타 오염물을 잘 흡수하기 위해 흡습성이 크고 세탁에 강한 옷감을 사용한다. 운동복은 몸이 활발하게 움직일 때에 착용하는 옷이므로, 착용 중 손상을 방지하기 위해 튼튼하게 바느질이 되어 있어야 한다. 그래서 스포츠 의류(Sports衣類)라고 한다. Indumenti generici dell'abbigliamento sportivo includono pantaloncini, tute, magliette, polo e scarpe da ginnastica. Fra gli indumenti tipici di alcuni tipi di sport invece si possono indicare come esempio la muta subacquea e la tuta da neve. In alcuni casi nell'abbigliamento sportivo sono inclusi anche alcuni capi di biancheria intima, come il sospensorio. In molti casi l'abbigliamento sportivo è adottato anche nella moda casual. (it)

De första sportkläderna var kläder för jakt och ridning. Under 1800-talet så särpräglades kläderna allt mer utifrån vilken sport de skulle användas till. Byxor och shorts används ofta som sportplagg. Skjortor i kraftig bomull samt jackor är vanliga på överkroppen, och gymnastikskor eller andra snörskor med en tjockare gummisula används ofta som skor. De första sportkläderna var ofta av ull eller flanell eller jersey. Syntetiska och stretchmaterial blev vanliga under 1950-talet och 1960-talet och inom många hastighetssporter används kroppsnära overaller eller bodyer i sådana material. I simsporter och vattenpolo används badbyxor eller baddräkt. I båtsporter används regnställ och flytväst. I motorsport har man ofta flamsäkra overaller med anledning av risken för olyckor. Många sportkläder har ett maskulint utseende och är formgivna för att se "tuffa" ut. Därigenom har många sportutövare, så som Björn Borg, skapat populära sportplaggsserier.
