William Foster Hayes III (born June 5, 1925) is an American actor and recording artist. His song “The Ballad of Davy Crockett“ hit the top of the Billboard charts in the spring of 1955. Following a successful career as a musician which began in the late 1940s, Hayes began to focus on dramatic acting parts in the late 1960s, which led him to be cast in a role that gained him additional fame to a younger generation. This new chapter began in 1970 when he originated the character of Doug Williams on NBC's Days of Our Lives, which he continues to play to date. (en)

William Foster (Bill) Hayes III (Harvey (Illinois), 5 juni 1925) is een Amerikaans zanger en acteur. Hij begon zijn carrière in de jaren 50 en 60 met enkele rollen in films en als gastacteur in series. Van 1947 tot 1969 was hij gehuwd met Mary Hobbs; ze hebben 5 kinderen. In 1970 kreeg hij zijn bekendste rol, die van Doug Williams in de soapserie Days of our Lives. Zijn rol in deze serie was niet onbesproken: hij kreeg een relatie met Julie Olson en later met haar moeder, met wie hij een dochter kreeg. Na de dood van zijn vrouw keerde hij terug naar Julie in een aan-uit relatie zoals het een soapserie betaamt; Doug en Julie zijn het eerste superkoppel in de Amerikaanse soapwereld. Maar ook in het echte leven werd hij verliefd op Susan Seaforth Hayes die de rol van Julie vertolkt en in 1974 huwden ze. Hayes verliet de show in 1984 maar keerde terug van 1986 tot 1987 en van 1993 tot 1996. In 1999 keerde hij opnieuw terug, sindsdien verblijft hij in Salem (thuishaven van Days) maar is niet meer zo vaak op het scherm te zien, in 2004 werd zijn personage vermoord, maar niet veel later bleek dat hij toch nog leefde en hij keerde terug naar zijn geliefde Julie. Bill Hayes is ook zanger (geweest) en heeft daarmee in de jaren 50 en 60 enige successen gehad. (nl)
