La cour d’appel des États-Unis pour le circuit du district de Columbia (en anglais, United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit), connue sous le nom officieux de D.C. Circuit (« circuit de DC » en français) est la cour d'appel fédérale de la ville de Washington, D.C. aux États-Unis. Comme pour toutes les cours d'appel américaines, les appels interjetés sur les décisions de cette cour sont entendus de façon discrétionnaire par la Cour suprême des États-Unis. Cette cour ne doit pas être confondue avec la cour d’appel du district de Columbia (District of Columbia Court of Appeals), qui est l'équivalent d'une Cour suprême d'État fédéré pour le district fédéral. Bien que sa compétence géographique soit de très loin la plus petite de toutes les cours d'appel américaines, cette cour est cependant l'une des plus importantes. En effet, elle a compétence pour statuer en première instance sur les décisions d'un grand nombre d'agence fédérales. En plus des agences dont les statuts disposent explicitement que leur contentieux doit être traité par cette cour, elle entend aussi les cas d'autres agences du fait du Administrative Procedures Act. Étant donné l'étendue du pouvoir des agences fédérales, cela confère un rôle central dans la politique et le droit américain aux juges du circuit de DC. Elle juge également en appel les affaires saisies par la Cour de district des États-Unis pour le district de Columbia, la cour de district spécifique à la capitale fédérale. Un poste de juge au D.C. Circuit est souvent un tremplin vers une nomination à la Cour suprême. Ainsi le juge John Roberts, qui servait à la cour depuis 2003 a été nommé en 2005 par le président George W. Bush pour remplacer Sandra Day O'Connor à la Cour suprême. Roberts devient le quatrième juge du circuit de DC à siéger à la Cour suprême, rejoignant Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Antonin Scalia, et Clarence Thomas. The United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit (in case citations, D.C. Cir.) is one of the thirteen United States Courts of Appeals. It has the smallest geographical jurisdiction of any of the U.S. federal appellate courts, and covers only one district court: the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. It meets at the E. Barrett Prettyman United States Courthouse, near Judiciary Square, Washington, D.C. The D.C. Circuit's prominence and prestige among American federal courts is second only to the U.S. Supreme Court because its geographic jurisdiction contains the U.S. Capitol and the headquarters of many of the U.S. federal government's executive departments and government agencies, and therefore it is the main federal appellate court for many issues of American administrative law and constitutional law. Four of the current nine justices on the Supreme Court were previously judges on the D.C. Circuit including Chief Justice John Roberts, along with associate justices Clarence Thomas, Brett Kavanaugh and Ketanji Brown Jackson. Former justices Fred M. Vinson, Wiley Blount Rutledge, Warren E. Burger, Antonin Scalia, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, also served as judges on the D.C. Circuit before their appointments to the Supreme Court. Because the D.C. Circuit does not represent any state, confirmation of nominees can be procedurally and practically easier than for nominees to the Courts of Appeals for the other geographical districts, as home-state senators have historically been able to hold up confirmation through the "blue slip" process. However, in recent years, several nominees to the D.C. Circuit were stalled, and some were ultimately not confirmed because senators claimed that the court had become larger than necessary to handle its caseload. (en)

Het gerechtshof heeft het kleinste arrondissement in de Verenigde Staten van Amerika, maar heeft desondanks de taak om de beslissingen van vele federale instanties te beoordelen, zonder dat er een rechtszaak in een lagere rechtbank aan voorafgaat. A Corte de Apelações dos Estados Unidos para o Circuito do Distrito de Colúmbia (D.C. Cir.) é uma das treze Cortes de apelações dos Estados Unidos. Tem a menor jurisdição geográfica de qualquer um dos tribunais de apelação federais do país e cobre apenas um tribunal distrital: o Tribunal Distrital para o Distrito de Colúmbia. Sua sede está localizada no Judiciary Square, em Washington, D.C.. Sua proeminência e o prestígio entre os tribunais norte-americanos é superada apenas pela da Suprema Corte, eis que possui jurisdição sobre processos referentes ao Congresso e muitas agências governamentais federais. É, portanto, o principal tribunal de apelação para muitas questões que versam sobre direito administrativo e direito constitucional. Ademais, dos atuais nove juízes associados da Suprema Corte, quatro foram membros da corte: o chefe de Justiça John Roberts e os magistrados Clarence Thomas, Ruth Bader Ginsburg e Brett Kavanaugh.
