It was the first faculty of electrical engineering in the world and offered the first course of study in electrical engineering. As of 2018, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is one of the largest electrical engineering departments in Germany, with 29 professorships, around 250 scientific staff and around 2,400 students in 10 study courses.
