Trvání tónu či jeho délka je jedna z , které se hodnotí u tónů nebo zvuků. Trvání určuje jeho délku v čase, tedy časovou hodnotu. Trvání tónu je možné měřit a zapisovat pomocí běžných jednotek času (ms, s, min. atd.). V tradiční hudební notaci jsou však různé délky trvání tónů obvykle s různými hodnotami not, které nejsou vyjádřitelné absolutně, nýbrž pouze jsou ve vzájemně relativním vztahu. Jako pomůcka k určování a dodržování stejného trvání tónů se od počátku 19. století používaly také mechanické, či později také elektronické nebo elektromechanické metronomy.

Usando o mesmo exemplo anterior, se tocamos uma música em 4/4 com um pulso que dura cerca de 1 segundo isso resulta em um ritmo lento. Se a unidade tiver metade dessa duração, o ritmo será duas vezes mais rápido. Por isso dizemos que, em música, as durações são relativas. Em uma estrutura rítmica, durações que não correspondam às frações mostradas na tabela ou durações maiores que um compasso podem ser representadas como ligações de duas ou mais notas (chamadas de ligaduras).
