Egmond ist eine ehemalige Gemeinde, die sich aus drei kleinen Ortsteilen zusammensetzt und in der niederländischen Provinz Nordholland liegt. Sie ist rund 35 Kilometer von Amsterdam und 10 Kilometer von Alkmaar entfernt. Die drei Ortsteile sind Egmond-Binnen, Egmond aan den Hoef und Egmond aan Zee, der größte Ortsteil. Zusammen mit den Dörfern Schoorl und Bergen bilden sie seit dem 1. Januar 2001 die Großgemeinde Bergen. Im Jahre 977 wurde das Fischerdorf Egmond aan Zee das erste Mal erwähnt und hatte zusammen mit der Benediktinerabtei bis heute eine wechselvolle Geschichte. Die seit 1950 wieder von Leben erfüllte Abtei hat wesentlich zur Aufwertung dieser Gegend beigetragen.

In 2001, it was merged with the municipalities of Schoorl and Bergen to form the municipality of Bergen. The three main villages in the former municipality are Egmond aan den Hoef, Egmond aan Zee and Egmond-Binnen. The place gave its name to the House of Egmond, who became the powerful protectors of Egmond Abbey, founded in the 9th-century in Egmond-Binnen, and who built their residence (hoeve/hoef) in Egmond aan den Hoef. The French philosopher René Descartes, author of Meditations on First Philosophy, lived in both Egmond aan den Hoef and (mostly) Egmond-Binnen from April 1636 to September 1638 and again from May 1643 until the end of September 1649 before leaving for Sweden (where he died 4 months later). His Les Météores, La Dioptrique and La Géométrie were published in the first period and his letters to Elisabeth of the Palatinate and Les Passions de l'âme were from the second period. Van begin jaren 30 tot begin jaren 70 vervaardigde het bedrijf verschillende soorten akoestische, elektrische en basgitaren. Op het hoogtepunt, in de jaren 60, werden er duizenden gitaren per week geproduceerd. Negentig procent van de gitaren werd geëxporteerd, vooral naar de Verenigde Staten. Naast gitaren werden er ook versterkers en gitaarelementen geproduceerd. In 1974 ging het bedrijf failliet, waarschijnlijk door de grote concurrentie uit Azië. Egmondgitaren werden bespeeld door beroemdheden zoals Paul McCartney en George Harrison van The Beatles, maar ook de Nederlandse artiesten Rob de Nijs, Peter Koelewijn, The Blue Diamonds en The Tielman Brothers hebben een Egmondgitaar bespeeld.
