Die GE C36-7 ist eine 6-achsige dieselelektrische Lokomotive gebaut von GE Transportation Systems, und zwischen 1978 und 1989. 599 Exemplare dieser Lokomotive wurden gebaut, 422 davon wurden in die Volksrepublik China exportiert, wo sie als ND5 bezeichnet wurden. Im Jahr 2003 kaufte die estnische Gesellschaft Eesti Raudtee 58 ehemalige MP/UP-Loks (eine davon wurde 2021 testweise auf einen Hybridantrieb mit Flüssiggas umgerüstet). Die C36-7 ist die Nachfolgebauart der GE C30-7 und bildet den Abschluss der . baute 15 C36-7 für die , Bahnnummern 9327–9341.

(de) The GE C36-7 is a 6-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by GE Transportation Systems, GE do Brazil and A Goninan & Co between 1978 and 1989. It is an updated GE U36C with a 16-cylinder FDL engine. It is externally similar to the GE C30-7 but has larger air intakes under the radiators. The dynamic brakes grids of later units are located in a high box behind the cab. C36-7s were constructed with either 3,600 or 3,750 hp. Les C36-7 construites après 1984 sont capables de développer 3750 ch. Elle a été construite à 599 exemplaires, dont 422 pour la Chine, 40 pour le Mexique, 40 pour le Brésil construites par et 3 pour l’Australie construites localement par . En tout, seules 128 locomotives furent vendues à des compagnies américaines ce qui en fait un modèle rare là-bas comparé aux 774 GE C30-7 utilisées aux États-Unis. C'est également un des rares cas où un modèle construit au départ pour une utilisation aux USA a eu davantage de succès à l'exportation (neuf ou seconde main). En 2003, alors que les C36-7 américaines vivaient leurs derniers jours, 58 d'entre-elles ont été revendues aux chemins de fer d'Estonie où elles circulent toujours en compagnie d'une quinzaine de C30-7 également achetées d'occasion aux USA. D'autres ont été revendues au Brésil dont deux des ex-Australiennes rapatriées aux USA en 1995.
