نجم الدين حسن الأحدب (ت 1294م) كيميائي ومهندس مملوكي عربي. المعروف بـ حسن الرمّاح لمهارته الفائقة في رمي الرمح. كان رائد تصنيع الأسلحة في زمانه، عاش حسن الرماح في بلاد الشام وألف العديد من الكتب والرسائل في المكائد والأسلحة الحربية.

Al-Rammah called his early torpedo "an egg which moves itself and burns." It was made of two sheet-pans of metal fastened together and filled with naphtha, metal filings, and potassium nitrate. It was intended to move across the surface of the water, propelled by a large rocket and kept on course by a small rudder. Al-Rammah devised several new types of gunpowder and a new type of fuse and two types of lighters. La poudre fut inventée en Chine : Hassen Rahma l'améliore et en précise par écrit la formule dans son ouvrage Al-furusiyya wa al-manasib al-harbiyya, titre que l'on peut traduire par : « De la cavalerie militaire et d'ingénieux dispositifs de guerre ». Il élabore également un nouveau type de mèche d'allumage, et deux nouveau briquets. Il est surtout connu pour l'invention de la toute première torpille, constituée de deux demi-coques d'acier remplies de naphte, de salpêtre et de mitraille. L'engin volait et flottait au-dessus de l'eau et il explosait dès qu'il touchait le navire visé.
