هذه قائمة الدول حسب التصنيف الائتماني مبيناً تصنيفات ائتمانية طويلة الأجل بالعملات الأجنبية كما ذكرته الرئيسية الثلاث: ستاندرد آند بورز وفيتش وموديز، بالإضافة إلى تصنيف الصيني الذي بدأ يثير اهتمام وسائل الإعلام. وتحتوي تلك القائمة جميع الكيانات غير المستقلة والتي تصدر سندات حكومية ولا تشمل المناطق أو المحافظات أو البلديات التي تصدر سندات فرعية.

První tři jsou od nejvýznamnějších ratingové agentury Standard & Poor's, a Fitch, které společně fungují jako oligopol (ovládají naprostou většinu trhu), čtvrtý je od čínské agentury . Rating státu (angl. sovereign credit rating) je odhad těchto firem, zda státy dostojí v budoucnosti svým závazkům (budou splácet veřejný dluh). Hodnocení má různé stupně, vyšším z nich se říká investiční, u těch se odhaduje, že stát své závazky splatí včas a v pořádku. U těch s nižším hodnocením, na jednom ze spekulativních stupňů, už je velké riziko, že se tak nestane – slangově jsou prašivé (angl. junk). Nejnižším z nich je selektivní selhání (angl. selective default, SD); takto hodnocený stát už je v platební neschopnosti. Výhled (pozitivní, neutrální nebo negativní) naznačuje budoucí hodnocení. Na ratingu států se zakládá hodnocení dalších emitentů v rámci tohoto státu, jejich hodnocení je obvykle nižší.
