Durant la dominació persa el nom era donat a tot el país muntanyós al nord de Lícia i al sud de Psídia i part de Frígia oriental, diu Estrabó. De fet no es van fixar mai els límits reals d'aquest territori, i de vegades es deia que era una part de Lícia, explica Flavi Arrià. Amb els selèucides el nom es va limitar a la part sud-oest de Psídia al límit amb Lícia és a dir al territori entre Termessos i el Mont Cadme, diuen Polibi i Estrabó. El districte, una part del qual (a l'oest) portava el nom de Cabàlia, era considerat part de Lícia per Claudi Ptolemeu, i de vegades de Pamfília o de Psídia per Plini el Vell. Després de la conquesta del territori per Antíoc III el Gran, els romans van cedir el país a Èumenes II de Pèrgam pel Tractat d'Apamea el 188 aC. Els prínceps de Psídia continuaven constant com a governants del territori. Estrabó diu que el territori era molt muntanyós, però tenia algunes planes molt fèrtils. Els habitants eren anomenats milies (Μιλύαι), un nom que no apareix als poemes homèrics, però, segons Polibi, formarien part dels antics solimis, els primers pobladors del territori als que els cretencs immigrants haurien fet retrocedir fins a les muntanyes. Les ciutats principals de Milíada eren Cibira (Cybira), Enoanda, Balbura i Bubon que formaven la tetràpolis de Cibira. Alguns autors (Polibi, Claudi Ptolemeu i Esteve de Bizanci) mencionen una ciutat anomenada Milias que estaria situada al nord de Termessos. (el) Milies (griechisch Μηλιές (f. pl.), bis 2008 offiziell Milee Μηλέαι) ist ein Bergdorf der Gemeinde Notio Pilio in der griechischen Region Thessalien. Milies liegt 28 km entfernt von der Stadt Volos. Der Name des Ortes bedeutet ‚Apfelbäume‘ – in der Nähe des Ortes gibt es bis heute einige Apfelplantagen. Eine Spezialität der Gegend sind die Bergäpfel Firikia. Das recht große Dorf liegt ca. 450 m über dem Meeresspiegel. Man blickt fast von überall auf die tiefer liegenden Olivenhaine und die große Bucht des Pagasitischen Golfs hinunter. Die Häuser des Dorfes sind denkmalgeschützt, daher muss jeder Neubau dem traditionellen Baustil angepasst werden. Es gibt lediglich zwei enge asphaltierte Straßen, die für Fahrzeuge geeignet sind. Der Rest des Dorfes ist durch Treppenstraßen (Kalderimia) aus Naturstein verbunden, die für Fahrzeuge ungeeignet sind. Daher sind in Milies Maultiere, Esel sowie Pferde beliebtes Transportmittel. Alle Treppenstraßen führen zum Dorfplatz (Platia). Eine Eisenbahnstrecke, die Pilionbahn, verband in der Vergangenheit Volos mit Milies. Sie wurde seit Mitte der 1970er Jahre nicht mehr genutzt, aber Mitte der 90er für touristische Zwecke in ihrem südlichen Teil wieder in Betrieb genommen. It is a traditional Greek mountain village, at a height of 400 m on Mount Pelion. It is 28 km from Volos, the capital city of Magnesia. Milies is connected with the (Volos - Promyri) It has traditional stone houses, cobbled roads, good restaurants and accommodation in abundance. Milies is also notable for being the terminus of the narrow gauge (60 cm) Pelion Railway, built between 1895 and 1903 by the Italian engineer, , father of the famous artist Giorgio de Chirico. This proved to be of considerable economic advantage to the region. The recently railway runs between Ano Lechonia and Milies twice a week at the weekend. The village commands striking views across the Pagasetic Gulf and benefits from the many streams and water sources for which Mt. Pelion is renowned.
