Parkchester is a planned community and neighborhood originally developed by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and located in the central Bronx, New York City. The immediate surrounding area also takes its name from the complex. Its boundaries, starting from the north and moving clockwise, are East Tremont Avenue to the north, Castle Hill Avenue to the east, Westchester Avenue to the south, East 177th Street/Cross Bronx Expressway to the southwest, and the Bronx River Parkway to the west. Metropolitan Avenue, Unionport Road, and White Plains Road are the primary thoroughfares through Parkchester. The neighborhood is part of Bronx Community District 9 and is mostly located within ZIP Code 10462, with small sections in 10460 and 10461. The 6 and <6> trains of the New York City Subway operate along Westchester Avenue. The neighborhood is patrolled by the New York City Police Department's 43rd Precinct. De wijk was voorzien als whites only woongebied. In het project was voorzien in alle faciliteiten gewenst door werknemers en hun gezinnen, waaronder goede toegang tot openbaar vervoer, nabije scholen en kerken, ruimte voor winkels en de nabijheid van een medisch centrum. De naam Parkchester was samengesteld uit de namen van de twee aangrenzende bestaande wijken Park Versailles en Westchester Heights. De wijk werd gebouwd tussen 1939 en 1942 en de eerste eenheden werden in 1940 in gebruik genomen. In 2020 telde de dan 80 jaar oude wijk 33.602 inwoners op een oppervlakte van 0,96 km². Daarvan was 35,1% van Afro-Amerikaanse origine, 33,0% hispanics, 2,7% blank en 25,4% Aziatische Amerikanen. Er is een voor New York belangrijke concentratie van Puertoricanen.
