El casament se celebrà a Londres, al Palau de Saint James, residència oficial dels prínceps de Gal·les. Es casà amb el rei Cristià VII de Dinamarca. Malgrat que la parella tenia una diferència d'edat de dotze anys, el matrimoni fou feliç.
