"Chher-chhera" is a unique tradition where people of the village who work for others(but now it has been a custom of everyone) ask for sweetmeats and delicacies after the day of "Phuspuni", while in Chhattisgarh it's Dhan (rice) they ask door to door as custom. They chants Chher-Chhera as wel at many places sing Chher-chhera song, mostly small children and aged ladies visit their landlords and get delicacies like Arsa(ଅର୍ସା), Manda. Chher-chhera(ଛେର୍ ଛେରା छेरछेरा) song also highlights the fact the eldest lady patron of the house suffers from diarrhoea as a result of taking too much food on Phuspuni which symbolises that the family celebrated the festival well. And now it's time for the well to do families to share the joy with other members of the community. (en) |
