Wikipedia:WikiProject World Heritage Sites/Tables of WHS Sites - Wikipedia (original) (raw)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is a working page of WikiProject World Heritage Sites, to develop tables of World Heritage Sites for use in list-articles and/or for other reference.
It is based at first on a cut-and-paste from UNESCO's list of WHS sites, here. The version selected is sorted by UNESCO region (e.g. Europe), then Country, then Name of site. It is believed that the names of the sites and the limited info pasted over is public domain.
There are some anomalies in the UNESCO's data. For example, UNESCO chooses to list Israel with Europe and to put Arab States together, instead of having a Middle East including Israel, which is definitely not in Europe. Also the United States is included in Europe. "Europe" seems to mean dominant cultural influence.
Note the Google map link worked to show just a few coordinates but may not be working now that there are multiple calls to prime meridian/equator; the LiveSearch version worked well at least once.
Errors/questions to WHS may be added to a working list at WHS info issues.
The EUR region has been split off into table Wikipedia:WikiProject World Heritage Sites/Tables of WHS Sites EUR region

The following is a list of UNESCO-designated World Heritage Sites in sub-Saharan Africa. Note, this broad list of sites in an African cultural grouping is the decision of UNESCO, a political organization. It includes some sites on islands off of Africa. It may include some sites reflecting a not-African culture, but UNESCO lists them together. Note, UNESCO lists covering European culture (including in the Americas) and Arabian cultures (including North Africa and some Middle Eastern countries, are also of interest.
