Hawke+Fenris Comic 22 SPOILERS by notationn on DeviantArt (original) (raw)

I had two rough scripts for this comic*, and they diverged at this point. It wasn't until I touched pencil to paper that I decided which one to use. Not sure if I made the right choice, but hopefully people will like it :). Might upload the sketches of the alternate version at some point. (We're closing in on the end, maybe 8 more pages. ... wait, that's still a lot! D: )

*(Haha, this makes it sound like I plan things....)

I still feel bad I killed the Arishok. I liked him a lot, but I didn't want to turn Isabela over. She'd been my friend for years! :( If only there were some sort of international court of law in Thedas! (I probably would have turned her over if they hadn't killed the Viscount... I thought he was a swell dude.) I tried to make him look more grumpy than evil.

Also I went for MEGABEARD Danarius. I don't get to draw old man beards often (well, nothing's stopping me, but--) so I guess I just went a little BEARD FABULOUS there.

I honestly kind of wish Danarius had been... different? Like, the entire time I was imagining some skeezy old gray-haired man in douchebag robes, and that's exactly what we got. Yawn. I was hoping he'd be a well-spoken, well-groomed, powerful-looking, middle-aged guy who came across as somewhat reasonable, or at least someone who thinks HE is being reasonable. I still would have MURDERED his bastard ass, but the way it is currently, there's like... 0% surprise factor anywhere or any reason to try to talk things out with him ("Yo, maybe you should just piss off, Danarius, eh? I have fried way bigger fish" isn't even a choice.) I have my own mental reimagining of Danarius, might draw it sometime.

By the way, someone asked me how I do hands. Here's my tip: buy Hogarth's "Dynamic Hands" and not only look at it but READ it. READ the book. If you follow it, you'll end up being really good at Hogarth-style hands. The downside is that it's reaaaally obvious who learned to draw hands from him, because even though it's pretty realistic, it's also pretty distinctive. Don't know if that helps.
