Earthworks Audio DP30/C
Cardioid Condenser Microphone
The DP30/C is Earthworks’ latest mic for close-miked drum applications. It pairs the SR30’s “high-definition” Cardioid condenser capsule with a gooseneck and rim clamp for easy mounting on the side of a drum.
The gooseneck is 6.75 inches in length by 0.4 inches in diameter. It is stiffer than the gooseneck on its “Periscope series” sibling, the P30/C, because it is designed to withstand a direct hit from a drum stick without moving.
The rear of the capsule head is domed, to help deflect inbound drumsticks. Note that the capsule is mounted at 90° to the gooseneck — unlike the P30/C — to facilitate positioning of the capsule above a drum head.
While the SR30, P30/C, and DP30/C all share the same basic Cardioid element, the three mics produce slightly different frequency responses, due to the differing shapes of the capsule enclosures. Nonetheless, all are essentially flat from 30Hz–30kHz at a 6-inch measuring distance. (At greater distances, the loss of proximity effect causes a rolloff of lower frequencies.)
