Company Notes

24 Aug 1934: North's Navigation Collieries (1889), Ltd. — The accounts for 1933 show that the balance of profit and loss account brought forward is £516,570, and after debiting the account with all charges, and provision having been made for taxation, there is a profit on the year of £63,903, leaving a debit balance to carry forward of £452,667. The report adds "Since the date of these accounts, the directors have had the company's works and properties revalued by an eminent firm of mining engineers. The figures disclose a value considerably in excess of that appearing in the company's accounts. It is anticipated that certain reserves will become free by the end of the current year, and the directors propose writing these back, together with other reserves not now required, to the credit of profit and loss account, so eliminating trading losses to date. The debit balance then remaining, being in respect of capital losses, will be offset by the appreciation in works and properties value as mentioned above. With the elimination of the debit to profit and loss account, any future profits will be available for dividend purposes."
