Newspaper Articles Newspaper Articles 17th December 1870, Page: 583, Column: 1 Home News The Oaks Colliery, Barnsley, which has been closed since the terrible explosion in 1866, has been reopened. About 150 bodies are known to be still in the workings, and these are being sought for by a picked exploring party. Some have been recovered, and in such a good state of preservation, as to be identified.
